JustFit Fitness Mobile Interaction

Client: FinelyMe
Website: youtube.com
Date: 1S July 2015
From 2013-2015, JustFit was the most popular Android app in Taiwan for specialised workout plans and customised fitness recommendations. In 2016 it merged with a bigger competitor. It features a large database of daily food and exercise items. With JustFit, users could track calorie intake and calories burnt every time, everywhere, even if they are offline.
My task was to bring UX to the product, taking into account the users’ goals, pains and gains together with the near future business goals and then visualising its features and interactions through collaborating with the founder, the developer and the graphic designer.

Project backgrounds and objectives

I met the founder of the startup FinelyMe Co. Ltd at a conference, when the new JustFit app was in development. The previous version was named “GOGOSamba”. It had been designed from an engineer’s point of view with a focus on functionality and database building. I introduced UX to the project, aiming to find out users’ concerns, pain points and expectations to improve overall experiences of the upcoming new app and meantime, to fulfil the requirements of business extension.

Collect & Define

Collect issues & identify requirements

The predecessor of JustFit, GOGOSamba, grew in size and influence. Through the feedback from the users, we got user needs and the pain points of the overall experiences. After reviewing these insights with the founder, issues and concerns about the app features and the problems of interaction experiences on Android smartphone were pointed out. On the other side, the new business features of training courses and workout plans as well as technical constraints were also addressed simultaneously.

Design

Create wireframe sketches to improve interaction & user experience

With considering that there will be new business features released soon later, wireframes and interactions of JustFit were designed with scalable solutions by following the Android UI patterns. Meanwhile, the user experience of the app was improved by increasing simplicity, whilst all features were included, as well as making sure that users can move from one app to another easily.

Create a storyboard

Once the wireframes were in place, all of them were linked together into a storyboard to map out the main interaction processes. Then the storyboard was used to review the flow and usability with users and developers.

Prototype & Evaluate

Conduct agile iterative development

Since JustFit has its own early version, with the wireframes and storyboard, we employed rapid application development so that we can have a quick testing to collect users’ feedback. Soon later, we launched JustFit online with minimal cost and time, where we continued to collect users’ response and offer thoughtful, high-quality features.
